The Zenfone 3 Laser is receiving its update to Nougat through build V14.2015.1701.13. Update [January 19, 2017]: In some very sad news for Asus Zenfone 3 users, the company had to halt the rollout of its Nougat update, which was launched some 10 days ago. Asus hasn’t revealed a date when it could be resuming the Nougat distribution, but we hope it’s done sooner than later. Keep watching this space for more, as we will be sure to get you Nougat rollout resume news once it’s available.

Update [January 09, 2017]: Asus today released the Android 7.0 Nougat update the Zenfone 3. The Nougat OTA is already under gradual distribution, and is based on 7.0 Nougat build, not the latest one in 7.1.1. This is incredible news for Asus fans, as the company has been a bad performer in updates department for long time now, given the delay in Zenfone 2 Marshmallow update last year.

We don’t have the Zenfone 3 Nougat firmware or OTA with us right now, but rest be assured, we will be sure to share them with you once we get our hands on those downloads. Meanwhile, tap the ‘check for update’ button under Settings to see if you are already eligible for the Nougat update for your Zenfone 3.

Update [January 04, 2017]: While there has been no news from Asus as regards Android Nougat, the Zenfone 3 did receive a small update earlier today, which gets you October security patch on your device. We know, that pretty late — and lame — of Asus to launch the October patch in January, but what can you do, right?

Anyways, here’s a hoping that Asus is able to rollout Android 7.0 update by in February, as their Android 7.0 beta program is scheduled to end at the end of this month.

Original article: We are confident that Asus is currently testing the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Zenfone 3 device, that goes by model no. Z016D in particular.

We just spotted the device on GFXbench running Android 7.0 Nougat build, and we know it’s an Asus build because it’s the Asus edition. If it was AOSP or CM14, you would see AOSP or CyanogenMod edition in place of Asus edition. Look for any old Motorola device, which has got CyanogenMod 14 to its name.

So, Asus is certainly testing the Android 7.0 update for the Zenfone 3 right now, and we it’s able to release the update pretty soon. Today, Samsung Nougat beta update also became available, following on the lines of Sony’s beta-first approach for major Android updates.

Here is the screenshot of Asus Zenfone 3 Nougat update under beta testing, as revealed by the GFXbench listing. Below that you will find an old listing where the device is running Android 6.0.1, Asus edition, implying that the Android 7.0 release with Asus edition is a real deal. You’d notice that while Marshmallow is wypm edition, Nougat is tpin edition.

We expect Asus to release the Nougat update for the regular Zenfone 3 sets first, followed by the Zenfone 3 laser edition.
