Xiaomi’s new smartphone may not cost 399 yuan, still expected to be pocket friendly

Remember Xiaomi? Yes, the Chines smartphone maker that has made it a habit to launch low budget-feature rich devices. Well, word was out that the company was about to launch a 399 yuan smartphones, however CEO Lei Jun quashed them only recently, when he said that the company’s next — while quite light on the pockets — will cost a bit more than that.

From what we had heard, the upcoming Xiaomi phone is pretty standard. Fortunately for us though, Xiaomi’s standard devices tend to be quite loaded.

The yet-to-come phone for example, comes with a 4.7-inch 720p screen and a quad core processor rumored to have been manufactured using a 28- nm process with four core Cortex A-7 architecture. Xiaomi is supposedly using a Lead Core LCI LC1860C to power up its device — which from what we heard, clocks at somewhere around 1.6 GHz. Again, there is 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM packed into the device and for the shutterbugs a 8/5 MP camera combination has been provided with the whole thing running Android 4.4 KitKat. Although some new rumors coming in from weibo do point towards a 13 MP rear camera. All the better.

Connectivity wise, the device is well stocked with the basics such as WCDMA, GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE Cat.4 4G. In terms of design, its quite similar to Xiaomi’s Red Rice series and sports a plastic body with a speaker and LED near the top.

For those of you who are wondering about the authenticity of the information, its been provided courtesy a high level exec from China Mobile via weibo who apparently had these “in his album” since quite a long while.

Well, all in all the device looks quite packed to us and if Xiaomi manage to launch it anywhere near 399 yuan, we can expect it to make a killing.
