Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 is a great phone, but the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a much better phone. The two have a few similarities, but the differences are more pronounced than the similarities. For instance, the two have the same screen size and software and while they might receive updates at about the same time, these updates do not carry the same content on each phone all the time.
This is why we have a dedicated Redmi Note 5 updates page while this one has everything to do with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, be it major or minor software updates.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro received its first OTA update on 27 February 2018 – an update that brought MIUI 9.2.4, which installed the promised Face Unlock feature for facial recognition. The Note 5 Pro is Xiaomi’s first phone to rock the facial recognition feature, but since it was not enabled out of the box, the company said the feature would be activated via an update. Besides facial recognition, the update also added significant camera improvements as well as stability optimizations to the handset.
In China, it’s already possible to download and install Android 8.1 Oreo. Check out more details here. As for the table below, it’s about the Indian and/or global version of the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
BTW, here’s how to install a software update on Xiaomi devices.
Redmi Note 5 Pro LineageOS update
In addition to Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10, users of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro can also enjoy a taste of the popular AOSP-based custom ROM, LineageOS 15.1, which is also based on Android 8.1 Oreo. This means that if you are tired of the heavily-customized MIUI skin on your Redmi Note 5 Pro, you can finally get rid of it by flashing this new LineageOS 15.1 ROM, which will not only give you a clean AOSP-like Android experience, but also a bunch of customizations that elevate it above the typical stock Android experience.
Redmi Note 5 Pro update timeline
Note that Xiaomi released a variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro in China and other markets outside India that goes by the name Redmi Note 5 AI. Since it shares the same hardware as the Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro, the two also share the same software updates. In short, the downloads below should also work on the global Redmi Note 5.

MIUI 10 update download and how to install guide
You can grab the latest MIUI 10 update for your device from the updates timeline section above. To install, you are going to need the TWRP recovery installed on your device. Use the guide below to learn more.
Method 1: This is for the public beta update type.
Installing the public beta update — like the stable update — is very easy. MIUI 10 update version 8.7.5 and above are public beta files, so for these and future MIUI 10 beta updates, you can sue this method safely.
To install, here’s what you need to do to install the public beta update:
- Download the public beta file (8.7.5 and above) from above to your Redmi Note 5 Pro.
- Transfer the update file to your Redmi Note 5 Pro if you downloaded it on PC.
- Open the Settings app, and tap on About phone.
- Tap on System update.
- Tap on 3-dot menu in the top right.
- Tap on Choose update package
- Browse an select the update file you downloaded above.
- System will verify the update and install it automatically. When it asks for confirmation, do confirm to allow installation. Be sure to back up important data as the update installation may delete apps and data.
In case the above method doesn’t work, know that you can use the Method 2 below to install the public beta and stable updates too.
Method 2: For all type of updates
Whether your update file is a Chinese beta, closed beta, public beta, or stable one, you can install them using custom recovery called TWRP. It works for all type of updates. Here’s how.
- Install the TWRP recovery on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.
- Download the required files:
- MIUI 10 update from the table above.
- DM verity disabler file, lazyflasher.
- Transfer the downloaded files (MIUI 10 update and Lazyflasher) to your Redmi Note 5 Pro.
- Reboot to recovery mode to access TWRP recovery.
- Power off your Xiaomi handset.
- Press and hold Volume up and Power buttons together until you see anything on the screen. You will see TWRP soon.
- [Optional] Select ‘Wipe‘ from the TWRP main menu and do a ‘wipe to Factory Reset’ on the bottom of the screen.
└ Note: This will factory reset your device. Skip this step if you don’t want to factory reset your device, that is, if you are already on MIUI 10 update.
- On the TWRP main menu, tap on ‘Install‘ and select the MIUI 10 update file that you transferred to your device above. After selecting the .zip file, do ‘Swipe to Confirm Flash’ on the bottom of the screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
- Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see ‘Wipe cache/dalvik‘ option, select it and then do ‘Swipe to wipe’ on the bottom of the screen.
- Install lazyflasher file too the same way.
- Tap on the ‘Reboot System’ button to restart the device. Done!
