Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5 Plus released, here’s its availability info

Xiaomi has just unveiled the latest addition to their Redmi series of smartphones. The all new Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have been announced at an event in China today.

Both the devices feature new displays, new design, and new hardware. As is the trend these days, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus get larger 18:9 displays up front, with slim bezels. The phones are made from aluminum and look and feel premium. Below are the specs and other details of both the phones.

The Redmi 5 smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ration. Underneath, there’s the Snapdragon 450 processor, 2/3GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage, a 12MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera with flash, and a 3300 mAh battery. The fingerprint scanner is located at the back.

The Redmi 5 Plus features a larger 5.99-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and comes with 3/4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a 12MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and a 4000 mAh battery.

Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus look very similar in design, and also carry the same camera setup. They will both ship with MIUI 9 on board, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Price

As Redmi devices usually deliver amazing performance and features at a very low price, you can expect the same from the new models. The Redmi 5 and 5 Plus will be available in two configurations;

  • Redmi 5 with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage – Â¥799 (~$120)
  • Redmi 5 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage – Â¥899 (~$135)
  • Redmi 5 Plus with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage – Â¥999 (~$150)
  • Redmi 5 Plus with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage – Â¥1,299 (~$180)

Availability and Release

As of now, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are only available in China, where it will go on sale on December 12th. The phones will come in Blue, Gold, Rose Gold, and Black color variants.

We expect the device to be available in India as well, but we aren’t sure when that will happen. For now, if you’re in China, you can head to the official Mi website and pre-order one.
