Xiaomi took the world by surprise at the end of the last year when it introduced the Xiaomi Mi Mix to the world, or let’s say, introduced world to truly bezel-less full-screen display smartphone. The device never made officially out of China, but it’s fair to say that a successor to Mi Mix is something that whole world is anticipating with great enthusiasm.
So, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 then. Well, today, Xiaomi went ahead and confirmed the release date for the device, which has already been a big part of the rumor mill this month. Xiaomi shared an image — that you see above — on its Weibo handle, announcing the event scheduled to take place at in Beijing at Gymnasium, Beijing University of Technology, along with the hash tag #Millet Mix 2.
With Samsung announcing the Galaxy Note 8 earlier, here’s one device that will give the Samsung’s phablet a good competition. We expect the Mi Mix to be priced reasonably below the Note 8, and boast an even better spec-sheet.
Earlier leaks revealed that Mi Mix 2 could sport a 6.4″ display, a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB of RAM coupled with 128/256GB storage, and will be powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Oh, in case you are wondering about Oreo update, well, it should be down the line, but it may the company Q3 2018 until it rolls out Android 8.0 OTA to the device. And we’re talking the software update, let us tell you it may well get Android 8.0 thanks to LineageOS 15 custom ROM, perhaps sometime in Q1 2018.
It also says that Mi Mix 2’s display would feature dual curves (like S8 and Note 8), and will be a Super AMOLED panel by Samsung. Though, until that’s confirmed by Xiaomi on September 11, we’d bet on it to be true.
There’s one more feature that’s interesting to note. Xiaomi could introduce a better and improved 3D Face Recognition tech with the Mi Mix 2, which is employed right, could be a big help to users in day-to-day life.
While Xiaomi now looks set to announce the Mi Mix 2 on September 11 in China, as regards global release (India, Europe, USA and other regions), mum is the word — something that we expect for Xiaomi devices.
