A few days ago, we stumbled on a report from China that claimed Xiaomi Mi 8 was set to receive Android 9 Pie beta very soon. Well, it appears the wait is over as folks in China are now able to upgrade to the latest MIUI 10 8.9.6 beta based on Android Pie.

Those who are already using the latest MIUI 10 beta on Xiaomi Mi 8 are receiving an interesting update that bumps the custom skin’s version up to 8.9.6 and with it comes the latest Android 9 Pie beta update. The software is rolling out starting today and weighs more than 2GB.
Besides installing Android 9 Pie, the MIUI 10 8.9.6 update also brings along this month’s Android security patch, which is pretty interesting to see from Xiaomi. As noted, this is beta software that’s only rolling out to those in the beta program and is limited to the Chinese ROM, at least for now.
Xiaomi is calling it insider beta update that is available only to a handful of users who joined the beta program. But the company is promising the release of Android 9 Pie beta for the global variant soon.
