This doesn’t come as a surprise considering that Samsung had confirmed way back in September that they would be skipping the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S Advance I9070, and directly bumping it up to Android 4.1.2  Jelly Bean. While there was no specific time frame given at the time, Samsung Germany has posted on its Facebook page that the Advance would start getting Jelly Beaned come January 2013.
With Samsung already pushing out the Jelly Bean update to several devices, with more lined up, this is encouraging news for users as it is a clear indication that the largest smartphone maker in the world intends to keep all compatible devices in its stable updated with the latest software updates. Samsung Germany has stated that the 4.1.2 update would be made available through Samsung KIES as well as over-the-air.
For those who missed the details, the Galaxy S Advance is a cross between the original Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2, and comes with a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 768 MB RAM, a curved 4″ WVGA Super Amoled display, a 5 MP main camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera, 8/16 GB of internal storage with expandable microSD card slot and Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI atop it.
And come January, it is all set to advance a couple of notches up in the Android OS version ladder to Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
