Motorola Moto G7: Why wait for the next Moto G device?

A recent leak has revealed what the Moto G7 phone might look like and what it’s likely to offer under the hood. We were thoroughly excited with what we saw, which got us thinking as to why Motorola has failed to make a larger impact. We truly believe Motorola phones are hugely underrated and therefore list the reasons here as to why it’s worth waiting for the next Moto G device.

Budget Flagship

Probably the biggest reason why it’s worth waiting for the next Moto G device is its price. We have already seen that Motorola prices its budget handsets, from where it even manages to challenge premium midrangers on a few counts. Moto G6 was aggressively priced at $249 during launch and we expect Moto to stick below the $300 price range for its upcoming model.

Display and Design

Compared to more popular OEMs’ mid-range offerings, Moto G phones always seem to have better build quality and design, for instance, Moto G6’s 18:9 aspect ratio, dual rear cameras, and other embellishments its competitors seemed to lack.

It is rumored that the new Moto G7 will come with a gigantic 6.4″ FHD+ display with the contemporary water-drop notch design. This is a significant upgrade from the 5.7″ LCD display of its predecessor Moto G6.

Performance

Motorola is known to provide stock, Android-like performance, if not even better, with user-friendly additions like one-button navigation and gesture control. The result is that despite being unable to compete with popular OEMs’ processor, Moto G phones are able to dish out performances capable of embarrassing its mid-range competition.

It is rumored that the new Moto G7 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor which is again a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 450 that the Moto G6 housed. While this will undoubtedly beat its mid-range competition, it will still struggle to get on par with premium flagships.

Memory

The Moto G7 is slated to sport 4GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage with the ability to expand to up to 256GB using a microSD card. While this should be enough for most people out there, when coupled with Moto G’s clean Android experience, it is expected to dish out even much faster performance compared to other budget and mid-range phones with similar memory specs.

Operating System

We’ve already mentioned how Motorola doesn’t like to tinker too much with the stock Android OS. This is great because Moto G users don’t have to deal with bloatware and ads popping out of nowhere that significantly reduces productivity and impacts overall smartphone experience.

The new Moto G7 will, in all probability, come with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. This will further magnify the disparity between Motorola and other OEMs when it comes to dishing out a clean performance and there are no prizes for guessing who’ll come out on top!

Camera

The Moto G6 camera faced a lot of flak due to its poor picture quality despite the dual rear camera setup. However, this time around the rear camera setup as well as the front is set to receive a massive upgrade in the new Moto G7. The rear cameras are rumored to be a combination of 16MP+5MP snappers while the front-facing will be a 12MP snapper.

This clearly stacks up well when compared to other mid-range phones and hopefully, Moto has been able to resolve the chinks in its software armory to give us a better photography experience than its predecessor which we know it’s totally capable of.

Battery

The Moto G7 is expected to arrive with a 3500mAh capacity battery, which is a significant jump from the 3000mAh of its predecessor. However, this change was warranted since the new model looks all set to jump on the big-screen bandwagon with its 6.4″ FHD+ display. Considering that the biggest battery we’ve seen in a premium flagship is 4000mAh, this is not at all bad for a mid-range phone.

Considering the new generation phone is likely to come with Android 9 pie out-of-the-box with additional battery saving features like Adaptive Battery mode, Background Restrictions, and a new and improved Auto-Brightness mode, you can expect the phone to last over a day of moderate use.

Conclusion

The new Moto G phone looks all set for a massive overall upgrade and is expected to arrive at an aggressive price point, like it’s predecessors, challenging the hegemony of the more popular OEMs with a bigger screen, cleaner Android performance, and faster processor.

It is unknown at the moment when and where will the new Moto G7 launch and with exactly what specifications. However, if history is to go by, it is evident that it’s always worth waiting for a Moto G phone for it always springs a pleasant surprise on us with its tendency to punch above its weight.
