VR for G3: LG to giveaway plastic version of Google Cardboard to G3 buyers

Remember Google Cardboard that the search giant released last year? The VR headset that you could make at home. Well, surprisingly, LG has decided to pull a marketing stunt out of it, and is giving away a plastic VR headset based on the principals of Google’s Cardboard design.

The LG’s VR headset for G3 though, will be customized to support G3’s unique control buttons on the back to enable ease of use while using the VR headset which no other devices on the market could achieve on Cardboard’s concept.

VR for G3 features a unique design that leverages the G3’s signature Rear Key layout, compared to other smartphones where the volume rockers are located on the side of the phone. This unique design also means VR for G3 takes full advantage of the flagship phone’s 1W speaker with Boost AMP to provide richer, clearer sound effects that complement the rich visuals. For a more personal experience, VR for G3 can be combined with a Bluetooth headsets such as LG Tone Infinim for wireless enjoyment.

The design of VR for G3 is based on the blueprint for Google Cardboard, available online for home DIY fans. The neodymium ring magnet on the side of the VR for G3 works with the magnetic gyroscope sensor in the G3 to select applications and scroll through menus without touching the display.

Also, LG is playing well to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy VR, which released yesterday for a hefty price tag of $199, but with advanced features that Google’s Cardboard concept doesn’t offer, which LG is using for its VR headset for G3. But something is better than nothing.

As said earlier, this will be a free giveaway to LG G3 buyers in select regions. But we’re not sure if LG will giveaway the VR thing to people who are already rocking a G3 OR put it on sale for a reasonable price for G3 users all around the world.

The VR for G3 giveaway will begin later this month. This will be a fun accessory to own.
