Vivo Z1 Lite: All you need to know

Vivo Z1 Lite All you need to know

Vivo Z1 Lite, the skeletal version of Vivo Z1 was launched today in the Chinese market after having been available to pre-order online on Vivo’s website.

Vivo Z1, however, was launched much earlier in June this year but didn’t hit the Indian market. It is, however, slated to finally hit Indian shores sometime in November itself. However, nothing can be said about the Lite version of the phone coming to India as of now.

The Vivo Z1 Lite comes in the same 6.26-inch form factor as its parent phone. It also features the same FHD+ (1080×2280) IPS LCD display with a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Vivo Z1 Lite is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 Octa-Core chipset. Herein lies the most prominent difference between the Lite version and the original Vivo Z1 as the parent phone sported a commendable Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor.

The device comes with 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. Although the Lite version has managed to maintain the same RAM as the parent phone, the ROM capacity takes a plunge from 64GB to 32GB. However, there is a micro SD slot that can take care of your external storage needs.

On the hardware front, Vivo has made some significant changes to the camera. The Vivo Z1 Lite comes with a dual rear camera setup – 16MP (standard) + 2MP (depth) sensors and a 16MP front-facing sensor. This is in contrast to Vivo Z1’s dual rear 13MP (standard) + 2MP (depth) sensors and a 24MP selfie snapper.

On the software front though, there aren’t any changes as the phone supports various modes like professional, beauty, panorama, blur, slow-motion mode etc.

The Vivo Z1 Lite phone runs the same FunTouch OS atop Android 8.1 Oreo, which is the same as its parent phone, the Z1.

The Z1 Lite is fueled by the same 3260mAh battery that we’ve seen in the more expensive Vivo Z1 phone, making the Lite version a true bang for buck.

Price and availability

  • Launched in China for 1098 yuan
  • Translates to INR 11,400 (or USD 160)
  • Launched in China only

This is where it gets interesting. The Vivo Z1 Lite version has been very competitively priced at 1,098 yuan (INR 11,400) compared to the premium variant Vivo Z1 which is expected to launch in India at the price of INR 18,500 (CNY 1598). Except for the visibly inferior processor, there aren’t many tangible differences between the phones.

It remains to be seen, however, whether the Vivo Z1 Lite version launches in India along with the premium version. If it does, I’ll bet my money on the former for it offers a better deal than the more expensive version.
