Verizon is currently rolling out a new minor software update for the BlackBerry PRIV. This update includes a few bug fixes, security updates, and a newer Android security patch.
The update is being rolled out over-the-air for all Verizon branded PRIV’s. The software version for the update is AAQ281
and it is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Included in the update, is the September Android security patch, and a fix for the KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability.
Apart from the above mentioned fixes, the update doesn’t bring anything new to the phone. The BlackBerry PRIV was the first Android smartphone from the Canadian smartphone maker. It featured a touch screen and a full QWERTY physical keyboard on a device with a sliding form factor.
BlackBerry had rolled out a similar update for the PRIV back in Septmeber. Usually, BlackBerry is always the first after Google to release the latest security updates for its devices. But since the PRIV is a very old device, it is normal for it to see slower updates. Its latest smartphones, such as the DTEK series, have already received the November security updates. The company is also set to release the Android Oreo update for its KEYone and Aurora smartphones.
