Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus update rolling out with October security patch and Krack fix

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on Verizon are currently receiving a new software update. The update which is rolling out arrives as an OTA update brings October security patch and Krack fix, and may take some days to reach your device.

The update arrives as version number G950USQS1AQJA and G955USQS1AQJA for Galaxy S8 and S8+ respectively. The previous update that arrived as version number G950USQS1AQI6 and G955USQS1AQI6 for S8 and S8+ respectively brought the much needed Blueborne security patch.

Even this update brings a very important fix along with October security patch. The update for both the devices brings Krack security patch, which fixes the vulnerabilities in the Wi-Fi. Krack is a recently discovered security vulnerability that affects all Wi-Fi connected devices. Krack is not restricted to phones only but can affect any device that uses Wi-Fi such as a computer, tablet, iOS etc.

Like any other security patch, October security patch beside fixing Krack vulnerability takes care of other security weakness on your device. You should also expect bug fixes and under the hood performance improvements from the update. It is advisable to keep your phone battery above 50% while installing the update.

Meanwhile, Samsung recently released the Oreo beta build for Galaxy S8 in some regions including the USA. Unfortunately, in the USA it is available only for T-Mobile and Sprint carrier. It’s not just Samsung who has released Oreo beta build, even OnePlus pushed a beta build for all users of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. In addition to that, even Huawei has started rolling out Oreo beta for Honor 9 and the Honor 8 Pro, while Nokia has launched the Android 8.0 Oreo beta program.
