U.S. Cellular 5G network coming in the second half of 2019

All major carriers in the U.S. have already laid down their 5G rollout plans, but it’s only now that we are beginning to hear from smaller carriers like U.S. Cellular.

Ranked fifth in the country, U.S. Cellular has plans to begin rolling out 5G network in the second half of 2019. With the Galaxy S10 5G among the phones expected to be carried by the telco, it’s likely that it will be the phone used to launch the new network.

LG also has the V50 ThinQ that supports 5G, but we do not yet know if U.S. Cellular will carry this device. Unlike Sprint, we don’t have the names of the cities that will first receive 5G coverage, but these details should be out as the rollout period approaches.

Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile have also made their plans about 5G known, with the rollout mostly expected in the first half of 2019.

Besides the Galaxy S10 5G and LG V50 ThinQ, another device that is currently confirmed to support 5G is the Huawei Mate X. However, considering the controversy surrounding the company – one that pushed U.S. Cellular to avoid Huawei 5G infrastructure and instead work with the potentially costlier Ericsson 5G hardware and software – it’s unlikely that the Mate X will be officially carried by major telcos in the U.S.
