Twitter Android App Updated. Gets Push Notifications, Multiple Accounts and Upgraded Home Screen Widgets

If you’re disappointed from the Twitter developer team for not providing you with a great android app to enjoy tweeting at the fullest, well the twitter team has heard your cry and has indeed come up with a impressive update that fills in the features you’re craving for — Push Notifications, Multiple Accounts Login (and switch between them effortlessly), better Home Screen Widgets and more in the form of bug fixes and other improvements.

It would suffice to say that Twitter is feeling the heat of Google+ too — and we like the way the micro-blogging queen has responded. The official Twitter android app lacked many features which were greatly served in the much better non-official apps like Plume (called Touiteur earlier), Seesmic, Tweetcaster, TweetDeck, Twicca, etc. But having an official app has its own merits, and confidence levels among the users who may be shy of simply handing their account — and data — to unofficial apps.

So, here we are. The Push notifications have finally found their much-deserved place in the official twitter app. And multiple accounts logins is a pretty cool addition too. That’s the second time in the last 24 hrs we’re having the ability of multiple sign-in on two great android apps, the other being the android market wherein you can switch between accounts too in the newly announced Android market version 3.0.26 — download Android Market 3.0.26 from here for Android 2.2+ devices.

If you already have the twitter app installed on your phone, update it from the android market. For that, open the market app, go to ‘my apps’ and hit the update button in front of the twitter app. And if you haven’t got one already installed, download twitter from market.
