Third beta of Galaxy S8 8.0 update to release soon as Samsung halts second one (ZQK6) because of com.android.phone error

galaxy oreo beta 2 issue

Samsung has apparently stopped the rollout of the second Android 8.0 Oreo beta update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in US.  The users who participated in the Galaxy Beta Program started receiving Oreo beta update since the beginning of this month, and since then, there have been two such update, of which ZQK6 was the latest build in the US.

The build number ZQK6 was found to be causing an issue and crashing the Phone app, throwing the error ‘com.android.phone has crashed’. This made it nearly impossible for users to use the device.

Hence, the roll-out of second Oreo OTA, ZQK6, has been stopped in the US, as that’s where this firmware was intended for. The company stated that they’re working on a fix and will deliver a new software update very soon. That’s most likely the third beta of their Android Oreo update.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ Android Oreo beta is currently only being rolled out in the US, UK, and South Korea. Those in other regions will have to wait for the update, but you can still get the firmware and install in on your device.

The final public release of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8/S8+ is still a few weeks away. It is expected to arrive in late December, or early January next year.

In other news, today, Verizon released the Nougat update for its Galaxy J3 V, a 2016 release — this is special because other than Verizon J3 handsets never saw a day even in Marshmallow, while Verizon users are rocking Android 7.1.1 now. Also, Sprint also pushed October patch for its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Thanks for the tip, John!
