Sony Xperia SP Specs

Sony has taken the wraps off the Xperia SP, the company’s first mid-range smartphone for the year 2013 that has been heard of in rumours before. With the Xperia Z and ZL taking the flagship spot, the Xperia SP comes in as a cheaper option that doesn’t skimp on the specs too heavily.

The Xperia SP sports a 4.6″ Reality Display of 720p resolution and Mobile BRAVIA 2 image enhancements, which is a run of the mill affair for a device of this caliber and harkens back to the high-end smartphones of 2012. Another part of the spec that reminds one of last year flagships is the 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor, which is coupled with 1GB of RAM and should provide adequate processing power.

There’s an 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera on the back capable of 1080p video recording and a VGA front shooter, and Sony has (thankfully) also added a hardware shutter button (which I think should be a necessary feature like Microsoft has made it on Windows Phone) for quicker launching of camera and picture-taking. Then there’s 8GB of built-in storage along with a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, HSPA, LTE and NFC connectivity, and a 2,370mAh battery.

On the software side of things, the Xperia SP runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (not the latest version of Android available, but it’s what the Xperia Z is running on as well). Sony has added their One-Touch feature, which allows a user to connect to NFC-enabled TVs and speakers with a single tap.

Clad in an aluminium shell with a customizable transparent bar, the Xperia SP will launch sometime by the end of June in Europe and Asia, in white, black and red colour variants. No info on pricing has been revealed yet.
