Specs of Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact leak out

Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact

At the IFA 2017, Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact and four months later, we have the first details of the two phones’ successors, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact.

According to a new report, Sony will finally make the switch to the trending 18:9 display screen that went mainstream in 2017. Apparently, the Xperia XZ1 Premium, Xperia XZ1 Plus and Xperia XZ1s that are set to be unveiled at the MWC 2018 will stick to the old 16:9 design. But from the report, it appears that even the smaller Xperia XZ2 Compact will rock this new design.

Like any other 18:9 design, the Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact will shed off a significant size of the bezels traditionally associated with Xperia phones. The result of this will be much smaller footprints that house significantly bigger display screens.

Where the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is expected to ship with a much bigger 5.2-inch display screen compared to the 4.6-inch unit used on the XZ1 Compact, the standard Xperia XZ2 will reportedly make a huge leap from 5.2 inches to a massive 6-inch panel.

In terms of internal specs, the report only confirms details of the Compact model. It’ll feature a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Unlike the MWC 2018 debutants, the Xperia XZ2 Compact will stick to a single lens 19MP shooter on the back and the battery will be upped from 2700mAh to 3000mAh, which should do well to keep the bigger display alive. Software-wise, the pair will be powered by Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

While Sony has not mentioned a thing regarding the upcoming phones, there are a series of developments that do suggest we have something cooking for the MWC 2018. The company has just confirmed that it will be at the event and even more interesting is that there could be at least three midrange phones powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and up to 4GB RAM.

It’s not clear which phones these are because at the moment, we can only identify them by their model numbers: H31XX, H41XX and H42XX. You can check out more about their specs and features here.
