Handle Kernel-level Wake Gestures on your device with “Wake Gestures” Xposed module

Android Smartphones are evolving in the global market and high-end devices from many popular manufactures bring a lot of design variations and innovation in terms of functionality and flexibility. One such notable feature that surfaced in the android world is the Wake Gestures, which enables us to unlock the device or trigger an app by simple gestures. Many flagship devices include such features to attract the masses.

HTC’s Motion Launch and LG’s Knock On are some of the related innovations in the recent months. These gesture based operations save time by allowing users to unlock their devices and access certain apps by executing certain gestures. But not all are capable of purchasing the high-end models from branded manufacturers, so most of the users have to sacrifice these cool features due to budget restrictions.

However luckily C3C076 from XDA community is kind enough to develop a Xposed module called Wake Gestures that offers some of the wake gestures to trigger actions. The Wake Gestures app will offer gestures support like sweep right, sweep left, sweep up, sweep down and double tap. The trigger action can be specified by the user, which means you have the ability to choose the action performed when a gesture is executed.

The Double tap feature in this module is of special importance as it offers almost similar functionality as the LG’s Knock On, which lets you trigger actions by double tapping the device. Nevertheless the LG Knock On has an edge over this module as it comes inbuilt and offers a smooth experience, but this module is competent enough. This Xposed module is great, but there’s a catch.

The Wake Gestures Xposed module is not compatible with all the devices, you need to have a Wake gesture compatible kernel on your device. So the app is restricted to only Wake gesture compatible kernels and Roms, so hard luck for those users who has incompatible kernels.
