Vivo X1 — world’s thinnest smartphone launches in China, priced $400

Why does China always get all the coolest new high-end devices, at prices that others outside the mainland could only dream of? Hot on the heels of the announcement of the December 12th unveiling for the awesome Oppo Find 5, and news of the rumored November 27th unveiling of the Meizu X2, China seems to be getting another stunning looking device, dubbed the Vivo X1.

The Vivo X1 will have the distinction of being the world’s thinnest smartphone, an honor which was held by the yet unreleased Opp Finder till today which stands at 6.9 mm. The Vivo X1, which comes in at just 6.55 mm, has upstaged the Oppo Find 5 as the thinnest smartphone in the world. Now that’s going to be hard to beat, by any standards. But the rate at which Chinese manufacturers are churning out slim devices one after the other, it would be interesting to see for how long the Vivo X1 holds on to this distinction.

The Vivo X1 is an audio-focused device, manufactured by BBK, one of the leading manufacturers of DVD players in China. Specs wise, the Vivo X1 features a 4.7-inch qHD (960×540) display, a 1.2 GHz cortex A9 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage without any expandable slot, 8.0 MP snapper, a 2,000 mAh battery that support wireless charging, a customized version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, and will be available in black or white.

The Vivo X1 comes in with a 2,498 yuan price tag, which works out to about $400. Pretty much the same as the Meizu X2, which is priced at 2,599 yuan ($417 or €328). The Meizu X2 though, packs in a lot more power. But if you prefer slimness over firepower, then you can’t go wrong with the Vivo X1. If you’re in China you can order it right now from the official Vivo webstore.

Like all of the other fancy smartphones in China, it is highly unlikely that the Vivo X1 will ever be available outside the Chinese market, but one can certainly hope that it lands up somewhere on eBay.

  1. Great review! I’m having the X1S.-for now! 😉 Its battery is a one thing to point. Some users have some concerns about that even me. I bought mine from merimobiles.com (I think they are cheaper also). Good thing they have good customer service and was able to help me out decide before I bought this one. Now I’m happy with it! 🙂
