The upcoming Huawei P11 smartphone could feature a notch on top of its screen, similar to the one present on the iPhones, as per a new report from XDA.

According to the report, there are hidden images and configuration files in a new firmware file, that reveal that a Huawei device will come with a ‘notch‘. The folks over at XDA got hold of a firmware file that’s supposed to belong to the P11.

After doing a little bit of digging, the developers got their hands on some interesting details. An overlay image was present in the file called RoundCornerDisplay. This image had a notch on top, smaller than that of the iPhone X, but bigger than the one present in the Essential Phone.

Another file even has the word ‘notch‘ in it, with values for where the notch begins and ends on the display. It is possible that Huawei is testing this software on a current device to see how it would look on the completed phone.

Other details discovered within the firmware files include, a Samsung made 6.01 inch display with a 2244 x 1080 resolution, a code-name called EMILY, and more files corroborating the existence of a notch. The resolution is similar to the Mate 10 Pro, which also has a 6 inch display.

We’ve heard a few details about the Huawei P11 already, with the latest being that it would feature a 40MP triple camera setup at the back and a 24MP unit at the front. The device is also said to come with the Kirin 970 processor, and Android 8.0 Oreo running EMUI 8.0.1.

Huawei recently released the Oreo update for a bunch of its smartphones, including the Mate 9 series, the Honor 9 and V9, and the P10 Plus. We are not sure when the company would announce the new P11 flagship, but if they stick to their release cycle, then you can expect it sometime in late February or early March 2018.
