Sprint rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users on Sprint are reporting that Android 8.0 Oreo update is now rolling out to the pair. American users of the 2016 duo started receiving Oreo on the handsets earlier this month, beginning with Verizon Wireless and even though the Big Red halted and OS after a day or so, the update has since resumed rolling out.

Those using the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on AT&T have also received the update to Android Oreo and with the latest development, Sprint becomes the third major carrier to provide the Oreo update for the S7 twins. Apparently, the OS is also rolling out to S7 units on Virgin Mobile, which is owned by Sprint.

Like other updates, the latest rollouts are airborne and thus, it’ll be days before all Sprint users of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge get the download notification. Where the update on the S7 will arrive carrying software version G930PVPU6CRE7, users of the S7 Edge can watch out for an update with software version G935PVPU6CRE7.

Rather than wait, you can as well check for the availability of the Oreo update by heading to Settings > About phone > Check update and if found, proceed with the manual installation of the software. Be sure to connect the phone to a stable Wi-Fi connection and keep it on power, that is if the battery wasn’t above 50% already.
