Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium specs and images leak out

Those waiting for Sony to launch its next flagship phone at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 might be disappointed to learn that the Japanese tech firm doesn’t plan to unveil the rumored Xperia XZ1 Premium until the Mobile World Congress 2018 next month. That’s according to a new report from Georgian news portal Vortex.ge, which claims that the handset will also have a screen ratio of 80 percent of its body based on a new render that leaked out.

Sony, instead, introduced the camera-focused Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 at this year’s CES, confirming a previous rumor.

Specs

In regard to the Xperia XZ1 Premium’s design, its front panel is set to accommodate Sony’s logo as well as a 13-megapixel front shooter. At the back of the phone, a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel lens and a fingerprint scanner are likely to be found. The rear camera in particular is said to be featuring an ultra-wide viewing angle and 2x optical zoom.

The phone is also expected to include LED lights and cameras sitting on both sides of the device to serve as sensors. Other rumored specs of the Xperia XZ1 Premium include a 5.46-inch display with a 4K resolution. It is likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip and under the hood, it is expected to pack 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, like any other forms of leaks, this one must be treated with a grain of salt.

The phone is highly likely to be running Android 8.1 Oreo and ship with a 3730 mAh battery. Given that Sony’s Android Oreo update roadmap indicates the existing Xperia XZ Premium received the upgrade in October last year, it only makes sense that its successor also gets the same Oreo treat.

Wrap Up

The Xperia XZ Premium was launched during the MWC 2017, so it is safe to assume that Sony is indeed planning to debut its successor at the upcoming MWC, though it remains to be seen whether the abovementioned specs will hold true.
