Verizon Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic now in stores

The Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic both turned up at the Wi-Fi Alliance back in February, but we’ve been anxiously awaiting their arrival at Big Red. Verizon then delayed their arrival until June, but the day has come: both are available in Verizon retail stores.

The Verizon Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic are arriving as Johnny-come-lately smartwatches on the scene, considering that Samsung announced both smartwatches back on August 31, 2016 and declared LTE models for US carriers around the time the AT&T and T-Mobile Gear S3 Classic LTE models cleared the FCC. AT&T and T-Mobile have already started selling the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic in their stores weeks ago, but Verizon is the last in line in the carrier race to do so.

The Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic from Verizon come with top-of-the-line specs such as circular Super AMOLED panels, Corning’s Gorilla Glass SR+ for scratch resistance, a navigational rotating bezel for app and settings selection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and LTE capabilities. The Gear S3 Frontier is the more rugged-looking smartwatch, though the elegant Gear S3 Classic is every bit as ruggedized with the same IP68 water and dust resistance as its more rugged-looking sibling.

Both are LTE-equipped and give you one-number access to Verizon’s AT&T NumberSync-like NumberShare service.

Of course, Verizon’s own Android Wear-powered, Wear24 smartwatch just landed at Big Red on May 11th, so Verizon customers have two competing smartwatches to choose from.

The Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic will set you back $400 with additional an additional price for a monthly smartwatch cellular plan. Both smartwatches run Tizen but are compatible with Android handsets running Android 4.4 KitKat or higher.
