Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge get official LineageOS 14.1 support

In the early days of Android, software support was a big issue. It is during these hard-to-forget times that the Android community grew an unprecedented love for custom ROMs, among them CyanogenMod, which has since been rebranded to LineageOS.

While a lot has changed since CyanogenMod went down, the custom ROM’s successor, LineageOS, has been doing a great job filling in the shoes left behind by its predecessor. In the latest update,  LineageOS 14.1 has officially added support for the 2016 Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Note that LineageOS 14.1 is based on Android 7.1 Nougat, which might make the latest development less attractive to owners of a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge handset that has recently received Android 8.0 Oreo update. Still, the power that comes with LineageOS 14.1 is what could convince some diehard Android fans to make the switch to this custom ROM.

Since Oreo is already available for the Galaxy S7 twins, we expect the devices to gain support for LineageOS 15.0 in the coming weeks. Also, the devices should be among those that will be supported on LineageOS 16, which will be based on Android P.
