Samsung Galaxy J5 2016, Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy A8 Plus, and Galaxy J1 Mini Prime receive update with May patch

Samsung is rolling out new software updates to a bunch of midrange phones alongside one entry-level handset. The updates are targeting users of the Galaxy J5 2016, Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy A8 Plus and the Galaxy J1 Mini Prime, all of which are receiving May 2018 security patches.

Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 users are receiving software version J510FNXXU2BRD7 while Galaxy A5 2017 users are on version A520FXXU4BRE3. Unlike the J5, the A5’s update is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Those using the Galaxy A8 Plus are receiving an update with software version A730FXXU2ARE1 and the J1 Mini Prime is jumping to software version J106HJVU0ARE1.

The updates are rolling out to the phones over the air, meaning it may be days before everyone using any of them gets the OTA notification. You don’t have to wait as you can force the update via the Settings menu and download it manually.
