Nikon Coolpix S800C Price set at INR 20,950 in India

Nikon’s first Android-powered camera, the Coolpix S800C, is now available in India from authorized Nikon retail outlets, for a price of INR 20,950. The Coolpix 800C has a 16 megapixel camera that also shoots 1080p HD videos, with up to 10x optical zoom, variable aperture of f/3.2-5.8, and a focal length of 4.5-45.0mm.

The display on the back of the Coolpix S800C is a 3.5-inch OLED unit with anti-reflective coating and a full touch interface, and the camera is powered by Android 2.3 (yes, quite an outdated version of the OS). The full power of Android is at your disposal, including access to the entire might of the Google Play Store. The camera comes with several photo editing apps pre-loaded, and third-party ones can also be downloaded from Google Play.

Internet connectivity is possible thanks to the inclusion of Wi-Fi, and with a Bluetooth radio inside, sharing photos with other devices is possible as well. An inbuilt GPS receiver means you can geotag all your photos and videos, or use it for navigation if the need arises. The battery life is rated at 140 shots at the full resolution, so combined with usage of other functions on the camera, an extra battery may be needed.

But of course, in the end the Coolpix S800C is a camera, so it must have the image quality that one would expect from a camera costing upwards of INR 20,000. There don’t seem to be any reviews of the Coolpix S800C floating around the web, so you might want to wait for a few before buying it.

Oh, and you might also want to wait for the Samsung Galaxy Camera to launch, which carries the packs the same number of megapixels but comes with the latest version of Android, larger display, a quad-core processor underneath, and a full suite of connectivity including HSPA.
