As always, the CES 2018 didn’t bring any new Android smartphones worth making the headlines, but the MWC 2018 will.

With the annual tech show only a few weeks away, many smartphone enthusiasts are getting itchy as anticipation for new phones builds up. Samsung has already confirmed that it will be at the MWC 2018 to unveil the Galaxy S9 and S9+ and in fact, we already have the specific release date of the phones. But Samsung won’t be alone at the Barcelona-held event.

Like before, expectations are high that Motorola, which is now owned by Lenovo, will be at the event to unveil the new Moto G lineup, which includes the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play. Whether these three will be the only phones we get from Lenovorola at this event is still unknown, but according to information obtained by Droid Life, the company has already started working on other 2018 phones, including the Moto X5 and the flagship Moto Z3 family.

Over the recent years, the Moto G series has turned out to be a fan favorite. Many were full of praise for the Moto G4 Plus and the story wasn’t different for the Moto G5 Plus. If anything, the story won’t be different this year, at least according to this leak.

Lenovorola will borrow the design cues of the Moto X4 for this year’s Moto G6 lineup and it gets a new 18:9 display design. Unlike other OEMs that are relocating the fingerprint scanner to the back in order to accommodate the taller display, the Moto G6 and G6 Plus will get a thinner sensor that sits on the bottom bezel. In fact, the bezel is still spacious enough to accommodate a “motorola” text just above the scanner while the back has that odd-looking camera design, but it rocks dual sensors.

While the Moto G6 and G6 Plus’ front-mounted fingerprint scanners are quite clear, the Moto G6 Play doesn’t have one on the front. This could mean one of several things. First, the Moto G6 Play could feature an in-display scanner. Second, we could be looking at a Face Unlock feature on the G6 Play. Finally, it’s possible the fingerprint scanner could be underneath the trademark Motorola logo on the back, just below the main camera. We recently saw this on a leaked Moto E5, so why not do the same for the G6 Play?

In terms of specs, the Moto G6 will get a 5.7-inch full HD+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, 3/4GB RAM, 32/64GB storage, dual 12MP+5MP main camera and 16MP selfie camera. Keeping it alive will be a 3000mAh battery unit that should be accompanied by fast charging. According to Droid Life, the Moto G6 will be available in black, rose gold and silver color variants priced at about $240.

The Moto G6 Plus will ship with a bigger 5.93-inch full HD+ display screen, a more powerful Snapdragon 630, 3/4/6GB RAM variants and only two storage options of 32GB and 64GB. The cameras are still the same on either side, but of course, the specs will be a little superior on the G6 Plus. Droid Life believes the Plus model will also get a bigger 3200mAh battery unit and it will come in Deep Indigo, Nimbus and Dark Lake color variants. The price will start at around $330.

There isn’t much known about the Moto G6 Play’s specs, but you can expect to see a 5.7-inch HD+ display and a huge 4000mAh battery unit. In terms of price, the Play variant should be cheaper than the standard G6.

The Moto X4 is one of the best midrangers to have graced 2017 and Lenovorola is eager to impress even more people with the Moto X5. Like the Moto G6 family, you will be getting a 5.9-inch full HD+ borderless display design with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an iPhone X-like notch at the top to house dual selfie cameras and an earpiece. To the right of the notch are the time and battery indicator while to the left are cell and Wi-Fi signals.

Similar to the G6, you also get a dual camera setup on the back, however, conspicuously missing is the fingerprint reader. Maybe it could take after the Moto G6 Play and have the scanner embedded in the logo on the back or are we looking at an in-display scanner? Motorola seems to be including a software button at the bottom of the screen that could provide solutions similar to the physical scanner (swipe navigation), but it’s possible that users may have the option to switch to the traditional on-screen buttons for navigation.

Unfortunately, there is nothing much we know about the specs of the Moto X5, but you can be sure it will be an upgrade over the Moto X4.

Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play images and specs

Of the companies that first attempted to give the world modular phones, Motorola’s Moto Z was the best. The company upgraded the series with the Moto Z2, but this one obviously did not impress many out there. However, the Moto Z3 is shaping up to be a device worth keeping an eye on.

We don’t expect the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play to suddenly show up at the MWC 2018. In fact, we may have more months of waiting, but we already have a few details about what you’ll be waiting to see probably in Q2 2018.

After missing out in 2017, Lenovorola is going big with the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play, where the pair will jump onto the bezel-less ship and like the Moto X5, you get a “motorola” text on the slim bottom bezel. As opposed to the Moto G6, the fingerprint scanner is missing from the front panel and the display design of the standard Moto Z3 looks curved compared to the flat design of the Moto Z3 Play. A missing fingerprint scanner on the front panel could imply Motorola is ready to go all-in with Face Unlock or maybe the scanner will be underneath the display screen.

Since Moto Mods are here to stay, the design of the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play on the back is basically the same as the rest of the Moto Z family. From the above image, you can see the alleged Moto Z3 and a 5G Moto Mod obscuring its back. As for the screen size, Droid Life points towards a 6-inch 18:9 panel with a full HD+ resolution for the pair, but there are reports that Lenovorola has a third Moto Z3 handset in the works. Apparently, this variant will rock a higher-resolution display screen and a Snapdragon 845 SoC, but other details about it remain unclear.
