Meizu MX 2 Front Panel spotted, release date doesn’t look any near right now

The Meizu MX 2 is no stranger to us, with its specs and pics having leaked almost a month ago. After a brief hiatus, the successor to the original Meizu MX, has resurfaced in a leaked news bit at Blog Of Mobile.

The new information doesn’t really add much, to what we already know, except that there is now some more certainty than earlier on a release date. For those who missed the earlier leak, the Meizu MX 2 is an Android smartphone manufactured by Meizu Technology, China. Information uncovered now, about its front panel, reveals a bezel which is just 2.2 mm in width and a 4 inch (could also be 4.3″) 800 x 1280 resolution WXGA display. Unusual resolution for a phone, the 1280 x 800 s usually found in tablet form factors, but then, Chinese high-end devices have been known to go against the grain. The Meizu MX2 front panel is also said to include a physical key, assumed to be a “Home” key as found on several Samsung devices like the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S2.

The rest of the specs are not different from what was leaked/inferred earlier:

  • 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 SoC
  • 2 Gb RAM
  • 8 MP Rear Camera / 2 MP Front-facing camera
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • 1930 mAh battery

The article does reveal a release date though, and looks like this beauty will be outed on January 1st 2013. Again, info revealed earlier indicated an early 2013 release, and to be honest, we didn’t expect Meizu’s definition of early 2013, to be the first day of the year.

Start the new year, with a brand new device, eh? Pricing, as suspected earlier, is at the 2999 Yuan mark ($465), which seems to be a pretty sweet price point for a device with such impressive specs. The question is, will this ever see markets outside China?
