Holey Lights gives the S10 a notification LED light of sorts

Galaxy S10 camera cutout notification LED

Samsung created a beautiful phone when it made the Galaxy S10 (S10, S10+, S10e). They tried to give us as much screen as they could with the use of a display cutout for the front-facing camera. You can even integrate the punch hole into your wallpaper. It still is gorgeous. But they forgot about one very teensy useful feature, the notification LED.

Enter Holey Lights, a creation of the well-known developer, ChainFire. The app lights up the rim around the camera every time your phone, provided it is an S10, S10+ or an S10e, gets a notification. Cool, right?

The best part about this app is that it is free, without ads, and also open source. However, this is not a foolproof solution for a notification LED.

There are a number of reasons for its limited implementation and here are a few. The app cannot be used while the screen is off or locked or if the phone is not plugged in. The app would drain a lot of battery if the screen was kept on throughout, that’s why it can only be used when the phone is plugged in. Since the light is essentially an animation on the screen it won’t work if the screen is off. Finally, one cannot draw over a locked screen and so the light would not be visible.

While ChainFire will definitely have to smoothen out these kinks, the rim light around the camera is definitely a cool idea. If you want to check out the app for yourself, you can find it at the link below.
