DroidX Getting Update to Version 1.13.604 on July 19. BTW, It’s Not Froyo.

Motorola DroidX Update Version 1.13.604

It’s only two days since Verizon launched the Motorola DroidX but the device has already drawn too many concerns in the android world. First in line was the error at Verizon Stores resulting in device shipments that were way too earlier than its launch date. Then, many eye brows were raised when it was said that the baddest Droid device will brick itself if anything that belongs to rooting is tried on it. Well, that surely disappointed many adventurous android users who like to kind of have a hobby of becoming the super user of their beloved android smart device.

But we have some good news also. Verizon is preparing an Update for DroidX to bring a galore of new features / tweaks to the phone — which has gone ‘sold out’ on the very day of its launch. You can expect the update to roll out (lets say, gradually) on July 19. BTW, for identification purposes, the update is codenamed as Version 1.13.604.

Improvements:

+ Improved battery charging status indicator.
+ Smoother transition for camera and camcorder functions.
+ Redesign of weather widget icons.
+ Faster Exchange ActiveSync® email loading.
+ Streamlined organization of newly downloaded applications.
+ Organized favorite contacts by call count.
+ Updated Bluetooth® connection for enhanced video sharing experience.
+ Coordinated date and time across phone displays.
+ Cleaner looking status bar for GPS symbol.
+ Improved sync capabilities for 3G Mobile Hotspot.
+ Faster Visual Voice Mail loading.

Enhancements:

+ Take advantage of the enhanced, preloaded My Verizon application.
+ Preloaded Amazon Kindle® application lets you read Kindle books on your Android™ phone, including thousands of free books.

Oh, those of you who had had a hell lot of expectation (Froyo, to be exactly) should hold a little bit, since you still need to wait for that big speed boost boasting update till August. But the improvements and enhancements we discussed above are great too. Let’s be fair to everything DroidX offers. No?

  1. lol I’m pretty partial to Cyanogen. This phone will blaze for a few weeks, then trail off as people lose interest in a lack of variety. I absolutely love Moto hardware, but the software leaves an empty hole in the pit of my soul. (I hate it) I will stick with my Droid, likely until deep into the LTE rollout. Unless I switch carriers.

    1. Yes, Motoblur (although redefined) spoils the experience a bit and we wished we had a cool stock android 2.1 loaded on to it. But still, if Motorola ropes in a stock android 2.2 for DroidX, it will become the best android phone by far, unless you want to stick to 4G, in which case EVO is a good choice. Oh, you might miss the QWERTY keyboard but the 4.3 inch screen will mitigate the pain virtually.
Nevertheless, DroidX remains one of the best phones in market, right now to watch for.

  2. I am sooooo frustrated with the corporate exchange….unbelievable glitch with this phone. I have spent 2 days downloading apps and trying to update software on the phone, numerous calls to motorola for tech support….not even close to satisfied with this. I want the 2.2 update and can’t seem to find the way to force the update.

    1. You will be getting Froyo 2.2 very soon, maybe in August or early October. Don’t bother too much since whenever your 4.3 inch buddy gets Froyo, it will become the best android phone around (in my opinion).
BTW, we hope the update 1.13.604 will make your life easy, and do let us know once you get it.
Also, we just wish Verizon/Motorola load the Froyo in its stock version, without tampering it with Motoblur of any sort. What do you think about Motoblur. Is it that buggy as I know or does it helps (even a little bit)?

  3. Whilst I love a bodily keyboard, after managing the Samsung Captivate for approximately 15 minutes, it is arduous to go back. Presently I am debating whether or not to go to Verizon for the Droid X, pass to Dash for the EVO, or stick with AT&T for the Captivate…choices, decisions.
