Honor 4C Marshmallow update release set for March end

Huawei just took to their twitter handle to confirm the Honor 4C Marshmallow release date, and it’s set for March end. Well, that’s around 30 days from today, not exactly very long, so it should be taken as good news even though we aren’t fan of the total time taken here, which is around 6 months since the Nexus devices receive the update in first week of October 2015.

The delay is partly explainable too. The Honor 4C comes with Huawei’s own custom skin called EMUI, and when a custom skin is involved, it takes OEM good deal of time to update, mix up and fine tune their custom skin with new version of Android, in this case Marshmallow.

So the main reason behind the huge delay of Android 6.0 update for Honor 4C is the EMUI skin, and other extra customization features that Huawei installs with their phones. This is similar story naturally as regards Marshmallow update for Honor 4X, and even the newly released Honor 5X and Honor Holly 2 plus.

The only popular OEM right now who doesn’t installs its own custom skin is Motorola, which naturally results in way faster updates rollout for its devices. Right now, nearly all unlocked Moto devices of past two years are already updated to Marshmallow while Huawei (and Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC, etc.) are yet to update their last year’s flagship all over the world.

Which is why we recommend you buy a Motorola or a Nexus device if you want quicker updates. LG did pretty good with G4 this time around (launching the G4 Marshmallow update in December) but that was limited to a country or two till January when full Marshmallow rollout began.

Meanwhile, Huawei has started roll out of Marshmallow update in India for Honor 7 users, given preference ahead of Honor 4X and Honor 4C users because of obvious reasons (hint: price).

Selling at just Rs.6,999 (around $102), the Marshmallow update will make Honor 4C the most cheap devices to run Android 6.0 from March. Cool?
