Google kills Google Instant Search

Google is in the process of revamping some Google Search features. After reports showing that Google plans to remove ‘OK, Google’ voice search from Chromebooks, the company has announced the removal of Google Instant search feature effective yesterday, that is July 26th.

The decision to do away with this Google Instant search feature was based on making search “more fluid on all devices”. Also the maximum use of mobile in Google searches (over 50 percent) prompted the company to take this step.

A Google spokesperson was quoted by Search Engine Land as saying:

We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.

Google launched the Instant search feature in 2010 under the leadership of Marissa Mayer who called this change a “fundamental shift in search”.

Now, with the removal of Google Instant search, users will now only see search suggestions and not result pages when they start typing on Google Search engine. The result pages will appear only after the users click on those suggestions.
