Rovio Promises Angry Birds Lite, for Low-End Android Phones with 550 Mhz-600 Mhz Processors

angry birds lite

It’s not everyday you see an app developer care so much about its users. Rovio, the creator of our lovely game, Angry birds, just rolled out a public announcement taking an oath to develop a new friendly version — Angry Birds Lite — for low-end android phones like HTC Dream, Samsung Spica, Motorola Backflip, T-Mobile G1, HTC Hero, HTC Tatto, HTC Wildfire, etc (Full list of phones given below in the quoted announcement).

If you own a low-end android phone, you will be quite disappointed with latest update of the Angry Birds — which brought cool 45 new levels and in-game ads –as the update made the game outside of low-end phone’s capabilities. Blame it for the in-game ads which really caused more pressure on the already squeezing resources of less than 1ghz/800Mhz phones.

Well, Rovio is already feeling sad for this and has publicly apologized too, and to bring smile back on your face, they have decided to come out with a new version — called the Angry Birds Lite — especially tailored for phone powered by 500 Mhz – 600 Mhz processor. BTW, don’t think of Angry Birds Lite as a trial edition as it’s quite complete and will feature all the levels of the main edition.

We hope developers learn a manner or two from the Rovio, who has kind of set an example here by making the game available for all range of android phones.

So, what should we expect now from other developers or let’s say Google, to make the Chrome to phone extension available atleast for android 2.1 devices too? Oops!

Rovio Announcement:-

We have received a lot of feedback regarding the latest Angry Birds update on Android.

First of all, we offer our apologies to all of our fans who have had trouble running Angry Birds. We thank everybody who has sent their feedback and comments to us – we really appreciate you taking the time!

With our latest update, we worked hard to bring Angry Birds to even more Android devices. Despite our efforts, we were unsuccessful in delivering optimal performance.

Right now we are running even more testing and resolving all the issues we have identified. We are also looking at all of the feedback we have received, and trying to improve the ad performance.

Some Android devices not officially supported for now

We are aware that a number of our fans have had trouble running the game on their devices. For example, some older and lower performance Android devices are experiencing severe performance issues.

We are preparing a new solution for the next update, but for the time being, the Android devices listed below are not officially supported by Angry Birds:

  • Droid Eris
  • HTC Dream
  • HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2 Touch
  • HTC Magic/Sapphire/Mytouch 3G
  • HTC Tattoo
  • HTC Wildfire
  • Huawei Ideos/U8150
  • LG Ally/Aloha/VS740
  • LG GW620/Eve
  • Motorola Backflip/MB300
  • Motorola Cliq/Dext
  • Samsung Acclaim
  • Samsung Moment/M900
  • Samsung Spica/i5700
  • Samsung Transform
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini
  • T-Mobile G1

Furthermore, devices running Android platform version below 1.6 or custom ROMs are not officially supported.

A lightweight Angry Birds in the works

From the beginning, we have wanted to make Angry Birds available for every feasible Android device. This is why we chose to distribute the game via GetJar, and why the game is supported by advertising. We tested the game extensively on a large number of devices, and gathered all the feedback we received from our beta testing to address every possible issue.

So far, we have hesitated to create multiple versions of Angry Birds for the Android platform. But judging by the feedback we have received, we feel that by providing a lightweight solution, we are doing a favour for our fans.

We are currently developing a lighter solution to run Angry Birds on lower end Android devices. This does not mean lighter gameplay or a lesser amount of levels, but a game experience optimized for devices with less processing power.

Again, we are thankful for your continuing feedback and support – we want to work together with our fans to provide the best game ever made on the Android platform!

Gotta say, somehow Rovio seems all the more loving now and Angry Birds our most cool game forever! Let’s check out some cool official angry birds trailer!
