[Update: Wi-Fi variant clears FCC too] Unlocked Galaxy Tab S6 (5G?) for the US and Canada clears Wi-Fi Alliance

Tab S6

Update [July 26, 2019]: The Wi-Fi variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 has just cleared the FCC. New documents at FCC show that a Samsung device with model no. SM-T860 has been given the green flag for release, and that’s been known to be Tab S6’s Wi-Fi variant.

Original post continues:

The Galaxy Tab S series from Samsung has always been among the best Android tablets you can get.

Things look no different for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 either, as this year’s Tab S is expected to pack in powerful specs and great features, not least a dual-camera (13MP + 5MP) at the back, Bluetooth-supporting S-Pen that attaches at the back, current-best Snapdragon 855 processor, and more.

If you live in the US or Canada, then we have some good news for you. We just spotted the US-unlocked Canadian variant of the Tab S6 hit the Wi-Fi Alliance, which means the Tab S6 is one step closer to release in the US and Canada now.

A Samsung device carrying the model no. SM-T867U and SM-T867R4 cleared the Wi-Fi alliance today.

We know for sure now that the SM-T86x is none other than the Galaxy Tab S6, and given that Samsung uses ‘U’ and ‘R4’ to denote the US Unlocked and Canadian versions of its devices for ages now, it seems fair to assume that SM-T867U is the unlocked model for the US, and SM-T867R4 is the unlocked model for Canada.

What got us wondering is the use of 7 in the model, SM-T867U/R4. Samsung uses ‘0’ as the third digit to denote WiFi model of its Galaxy Tab tablets, ‘5’ for the 4G/LTE model, and ‘7’ for the carrier model. For example, T837V for the Galaxy Tab S4 LTE at Verizon.

What’s new is that Samsung didn’t use U for the unlocked model of its Galaxy Tab S tablets ever (unlocked Tab S4 is SM-T837), but they did use ‘7’ to denote the 5G model of its Galaxy S10 handset. So, does the model T867U hints at the unlocked 5G model of Tab S6?

You tell us!

Wi-Fi Alliance confirms that the two models will launch with Android Pie on-board, but that’s not surprising at all. Let’s hope Samsung will be quick, to prepare an update to Android Q and One UI 2.0 for the Tab S6.
