Android 8.0 Oreo update coming to Samsung Galaxy J3, J5, J7, A3, A5, A7 2017, A8 2016, A8 and A8+ 2018

samsung Oreo update rumors

Yesterday, we bumped into a list of Samsung Galaxy phones that are yet to be released thanks to XDA, among them the never-heard-of Galaxy J4, J6 and J8. This list was found in files associated with the leaked Galaxy Note 8 Oreo beta build, which has been around for a while now.

While it’s a good thing to learn about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy phones, what many would want to know is if and when their current Galaxy phones will receive Android Oreo updates. Given that the list was found in files associated with Oreo, it’s obvious that the devices in question have something to do with the new OS.

Of course, the said Galaxy J4, J6, and J8 should come preinstalled with Android Oreo, but Samsung is also preparing to upgrade a huge list of its current devices, including a midrange dating back to 2016. While we cannot guarantee this list is 100% correct, the fact that it is part an Oreo build should give you hope.

Besides the obvious Galaxy S and Note flagships from 2016 and beyond, the update will also roll out to the 2017 Galaxy J3, J5 and J7 as well as a flurry of other J7 variants that include J7+, J7 Max, J7 Neo, J7 Duos 2017 and J7 Prime.

For those rocking the 2017 Galaxy A3, A5, A7 as well as the successors to the latter two, the A8 and A8+ 2018, Oreo is coming your way later this year. Interestingly, the list also includes the Galaxy A8 2016 (SM-A810), a phone that has a lot in common with the 2016 Galaxy S6 series and Note 5 as far as hardware is concerned.

Apparently, the fate of the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Oreo updates remains unclear. Although the appearance of the Galaxy A8 2016 on this list might be a suggestion that there’s some light at the end of the tunnel, keep in mind that this isn’t an official communication from Samsung, but just a hunch.

For those using Sammy tablets, the list also includes the likes of Galaxy Tab S3, Tab E 8.0, Tab Active 2, Tab A 8.0 (SM-T355), Tab A 8.0 2017 (SM-T380/T385) and Tab A 10.1 (SM-T580).

As noted, this list is not official. So, if you don’t see your device (yes, we are talking to you Galaxy J5 Pro, J7 Pro, C7 Pro, and C9 Pro users) don’t fret. You never know what the future holds.

  1. Samsung stinks…At least with Apple you can rely on getting updates for the OS without rooting. So tired of fragmentation…so glad I got the iPhone 7 Plus. Updates for 4 years baby. lol

  2. The original source of this list is our XDA article: https://www.xda-developers.com/list-samsung-galaxy-android-oreo-update/

Will you update this to give us credit for citing our list?

    1. Done. Link added. Thanks for the heads up.
And great work finding that. 🙂
