How to unlock HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE bootloader

Verizon doesn’t like giving its users a choice to unlock the bootloaders on the devices they buy from the carrier, even if the manufacturer allows that service for non-Verizon models of the device. This was also the case with the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE, which comes with a locked bootloader like all other HTC smartphones, but isn’t part of the bootloader unlock program of HTC’s thanks to Verizon, making it impossible to flash custom ROMs and other modifications.

However, the Android development community never sleeps, and finally, after months of tinkering around and using partial work done by many developers, XDA forum member jose51197 has found out a way to unlock the bootloader. The procedure involves hacking the device to enable SuperCID, something which allows installation of unsigned and unofficial ROM images, and then using HTC’s official bootloader unlock tool to unlock the bootloader.

An advantage of using this unofficial method released by jose51197 is that you also get SuperCID access on the phone, which allows installation of any firmware that you might want to flash, regardless of which carrier it is for, something which the official bootloader unlock method doesn’t allow. So, along with custom ROMs, flashing various official firmware from other devices won’t be a problem either.

The unlock method does involve a few tricky steps though, but there are full step-by-step instructions provided for unlocking the bootloader, and also for flashing a custom recovery after that. Hit the source link below to head to the XDA thread to find the necessary files and instructions to get that bootloader on your HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE unlocked and open to the wonderful world of custom ROMs.

Do let us know how it works for you if you try it out. Oh, and be careful and make sure to take a backup of everything on your phone, as there are dragons ahead and things can go wrong.
