ZTE working on 8-core Cortex-A15 processor-based smartphone?

Well, you already read the title, but I’m going to say it anyway – ZTE is reportedly working on a smartphone that will sport a MediaTek processor with 8 cores based on the ARM Cortex-A15 architecture. The phone will reportedly be named the ZTE Apache and will release next year.

Yes, as insane and implausible as it may sound, this is the rumor that is making the rounds right now. A processor with 8 cores would mean that even with the laggy nature of Android, we would never see a single sign of lag at any time, no matter how many apps may be running in the background or no matter how demanding an app you may try to run on it.

Other specs of the ZTE Apache are said to include a 1080p display, 13 megapixel camera, 3G and 4G LTE, which sound almost low-end when you compare it to the processor, provided that the 8-core rumor turns out to be true. I also wonder how much RAM the Apache will sport. 3GB maybe?

However, if the ZTE Apache does indeed have 8 cores, then I’ll only say this – please dear manufacturers, stop with all the mania about increasing the number of cores in your Android devices, and please Google, optimize your OS instead of just letting high-end hardware take care of its insane hardware requirements to be smooth and lag-free.

What do you guys think? Possible?
