AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge OCE Firmware: Downloads and Installation Guide (G925AUCU1AOCE)

Yesterday, AT&T pushed a new update for its Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, with build no. ending with OE2. This is an upgrade to OCE firmware, with OE2 patching up the root in the update. Not much else is known for now about what the update does, but if you want root access, you need to stick to OCE firmware. But if you have already updated to OE2 firmware, you can downgrade back to OCE using the guide below, and it needs mention that big thank for this guide goes to Sunderwear who made the Odin flashable files of OCE firmware available for us.

For those keen to install back OCE firmware on AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge, the guidebelow of ours will help a lot. You install the update using Odin software (provided below) and the whole process shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes, even if you are new to this. Just follow the guide in order.

You’ll lose root and custom recovery, if any, on your device. But that’s nothing to worry as you could root the OCE firmware using pingpong root here.

Let’s see how to install the G925AUCU1AOCE firmware on AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge.

Downloads
Supported devices
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge at AT&T in U.S. (model no. SM-G925A)
  • Don’t try on any other device whatsoever
Instructions

Disclamer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Important Note: Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

  1. Download Odin and firmware file from above.
  2. Install Galaxy S6 Edge drivers (method 1 there!) first of all. Double click the .exe file of drivers to begin installation. (Not required if you have already done this.)
  3. Extract the firmware file now. You can use a free software like 7-zip for this. Install 7-zip, then right click on firmware file and under 7-zip, select ‘Extract here’.
  4. You should get the 4 files in .tar.md5 format now (see below). These are the files that will be loaded into Odin, to be installed on your Galaxy S6 Edge (in step 10 below).
    1. AP_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    2. BL_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    3. CP_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    4. CSC_ATT_G925AATT1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
  5. Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).
  6. Disconnect your Galaxy S6 Edge from PC if it is connected.
  7. Boot AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge into download mode:
    1. Power off your S6 Edge. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.
    2. Press and hold the three buttons Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.
    3. Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.
  8. Double click on extracted file of Odin, Odin3 v3.10.6.exe, to open the Odin window, as shown below. Be careful with Odin, and do just as said to prevent problems.
    Odin 3.10.6
  9. Connect your Galaxy S6 Edge to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your S6 Edge. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.
    • You cannot proceed until Odin recognizes your device and you get the Added!! message.
    • If it doesn’t, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem.
    • You can try different USB ports on your PC too, btw.
      Odin 3.10.6 Added message
  10. Load the firmware files into Odin (that you got in step 4 above). Click the tab mentioned below and then select the file mentioned for that tab from the pop-up window you get.
    • Click AP button and select AP_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    • Click BL button and select BL_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    • Click CP button and select CP_G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    • Click CSC button and select CSC_ATT_G925AATT1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
    • Info: When you load files, Odin checks the md5 of firmware file, which takes time. So, simply wait until that’s done and the firmware file is loaded. Don’t worry if Odin gets unresponsive for a while, it’s normal. Binary size will also show up in Odin. (The screenshot below shows only AP tab with file loaded, you need to load files into 4 tabs.)
Odin 3.10.6 Firmware loaded after md5 check
  11. Make sure Re-partition checkbox is NOT selected, under the Options tab. Don’t use PIT tab either. Go back to Log tab btw, it will show the progress when you hit start button in next step.
    Re-partition Remains Off
  12. Click the Start button on Odin now to start flashing the firmware on your AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Wait till installation is finished, after which your Galaxy S6 Edge will reboot automatically. You’ll get PASS message as show below upon successful installation from Odin.
    • If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do steps 6 to 12 again. For this, close Odin, disconnect your S6 Edge, remove battery, insert it back after 5-6 seconds and then start from step 6 again.
    • Or, if you get FAIL in the top left box, you need to try flashing again, as stated just above.
      Odin 3.10.6 Pass Message Appears
  13. First start of the device may take time, so wait patiently again. Check the Settings > About phone to confirm new firmware.
Want Root?

Well, head over to pinpong root tool, and download the latest version of it. Check the attached files section of the first post there. That will root your AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge, SM-G925A, again!

That’s it.

If you face any issues over installing the OCE firmware on your AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge, let us know via comments below. We’ll try our best to help you.

  1. you put in one of the last steps step 12 if odin gets stuck to remove the battery…ummmm is there another way to decupple power as you know the S6 doesn’t exactly have an easily removable battery

    1. Oh! Yes, do a force reboot. Link below will help.

Btw, Odin got stuck for you? You installed drivers first before attempting this?

  4. Every time I try to upload to my SM-G925A, it says, “Fail”. On the download screen my phone says, “SW REV. CHECK FAIL DEVICE: 2, BINARY: 1. Help Please!

    1. You can try flashing TWRP recovery using download mdoe of your phone and Odin PC software. And then can flash a ROM for your device.

    2. TWRP requires that the device be rooted. I’m trying to revert to OCE so I can root my device.

    3. When you have TWRP’s .tar file, you can use that to flash.. using phone’s download mode. No need for root.

    4. I downloaded the twrp tar, put it in “AP”, entered download mode, started the transfer and it still failed. Im running Odin as Administrator.

    5. Did you install Drivers first. Did you get the message “Added” in Odin? Share a screenshot of Odin so that I get to know more about it.

    6. Here is your screenshot.

    7. ‘Nand write start’ fail is a terrible problem. Google to fix it. And try using another cable, must be original, or other USB port on PC/laptop. Try another PC if you can’t get this to work.

    8. The thing is, I have two of the exact same phone and a Galaxy Tab 4 (SM-T537A) that I’ve tried to root. I get the same message. I Googled it and they I need a new Motherboard, but they say it should be bricked and their not.

    9. I got it once (in 6 years of Samsung Galaxy usage) and that was due to wrong cheap cable I was using for once. So, I take that trying on any other PC didn’t help either.

    10. Nope, I used my wifes laptop with a different cable and the same story. I switched carriers in Jan and they didn’t want my old chargers so I have all kinds of Samsung cables. Could the bootloader locked? If it is, is there a bootloader I can flash? I wanna root 2 SM-G925A’s and one SM-T537A. I’ve tried a bunch of stuff, but there is a bunch of garbage out there. I am Linux+ certified, but Android is just different enough to baffle me. I wish I could just install GRUB!

    11. My build is G925AUCU2AOF3, I’m gonna try G925AATT1AOE2, I’ll let you know.

  7. Hello all, I am getting exactly the same thing as you did Ozzie. I have a new AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge with 0F4 on it and I also want to flash back to 0CE do that I can root. I’ve tried several of everything as well including computers, cables, USB ports and even file downloads and still get the same thing. Sounds like a write failure of some kind. I even wiped it to factory and still same. Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this or is it not even possible? Thanks for any help.
