Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E is World’s first mobile device with IGZO display

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has unveiled the Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E Android smartphone, manufactured by Sharp, which is the first phone with Sharp’s IGZO display. IGZO technology uses indium gallium zinc oxide technology that reduces the display’s translucency compared to other LCDs, which results in the screen needing lesser backlighting and hence reduced battery use.

Coming in at a size of 4.9″ and with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, the IGZO technology also gives the display high recognition accuracy and responsiveness, which make for easy and accurate handwriting input. Along with the display, Sharp has also equipped the phone with other great specs, such as quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, 16 megapixel rear camera with optical and electronic stabilization, 1.2 megapixel front camera, 32GB storage, NFC, 100mbps LTE connectivity, and a 2320 mAh battery. The Aquos runs on Android 4.0, which is the only “outdated” part of the spec sheet as Android 4.1 out of the box would have sweetened the deal even further.

Slated for a release some time in November or December, the Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E will most probably be exclusive to Japan and may never reach other markets. Stay tuned for more info regarding official release dates and pricing.
