T-Mobile corrects itself on Android 10 for Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10

Last week an encouraging bit of information came to the fore for the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 users, with T-Mobile announcing that Android 10 for those devices was in the testing phase. But today, the carrier updated its support pages to change the status of the update from “Testing” to “development.”

T-Mobile follows a patented workflow when it comes to rolling out software updates. Stage 1 is known as Manufacturer Development, in which manufacturers optimize the update as per T-Mobile’s standard. Next comes phase 2, Testing, where T-Mobile tries out the update and reports inconsistencies (if any). Finally, when the dust settles and the software has been approved for launch, comes phase 3, Complete.

According to T-Mobile’s website last week, the Android 10 update for the S10 and Note 10 was under the testing phase at the company, meaning indirectly that Samsung has already developed the software for the devices and had sent it to the telecom company for testing and approval, followed by the rollout.

Now, T-Mobile has taken a full 180-degree turn by marking the Android 10 update for the devices under the development phase, thus we are no closer to the rollout right now. From past experience, we have seen that the update rolls out in 2-3 months of T-Mobile marking the update under Development phase. Once the update hits the Testing phase, the update can be expected in a month or so of that.

Based on T-Mobile’s progress, we speculated Samsung to roll out with the Android 10 update in record time, leaving Pie and Oreo’s release dates in the dust. But now that T-Mobile has corrected its mistake, it’s difficult to tell how long it’ll be before we see the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 in all its glory.
