T-Mobile LG Q7 Plus gets Android Pie update

We all know how promptly LG brings the latest updates to its big flagships, the G8 ThinQ and V50 ThinQ. The story changes quite dramatically when it comes to mid-range/budget devices.

The Q7 Plus is one of the company’s most potent budget offerings but is nowhere near the top of LG’s priority list. The global Q7 Plus did get updated to Android 9 Pie in due time, but the carrier variants weren’t that lucky. One of the largest telecom companies in the United States, T-Mobile, has finally paid attention to the Q7 Plus and is rolling out Android Pie for the device.

In late 2019, when the rest of the world has already shifted its attention to Android 10, getting Android Pie doesn’t really call for a celebration. But for users, who had lost all hope, it’s certainly a welcome change of pace.

The update, which weighs in at 1302.8 MB, carries the September 2019 security patch alongside Android 9 Pie. T-Mobile’s official support page is yet to publish the update but is expected to do so in the coming days.

  1. I did the update last night and just a few quick impressions. Battery life is noticeably better! It’s not a world of difference but there is an improvement. It took about 15 minutes from download over my wifi to restart. I’ve had my LG Q7+ for a little over a year now and the battery is no longer holding a charge like it did when new. Android 9 has given some some charge-life back. The look of the system wide U.I. is a bit different. The fonts are nicer. I really like this.
