Update: The same stable update to Android 8.0 Oreo is also available for users of Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus as MIUI 10.1.1.0.OBGMIFI. The update arrives three weeks following the release of the beta version, but the initial rollout is limited to a few units, with a wider rollout expected in the next few days. Original post continues below.
About three weeks ago, Xiaomi released the first Android 8.1 Oreo beta update for the Redmi 5A. This was an unstable update with bugs and errors here and there, but the company has now finished ironing out these issues and started rolling out the stable version.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A users are receiving an update that brings MIUI 10.1.2.0.OCKMIFI, up from the previous version 10.1.1 that only brought the stable version of the MIUI 10 custom skin to the device based on Android Nougat. With the latest update, though, MIUI 10 is now based on Oreo 8.1.
It’s an OTA update that is initially rolling out to a few Redmi 5A users, with a wider rollout to commence next week based on the feedback collected from this initial release. It is then that we will get the download links for manual installation, for now, your best luck of getting the OTA is to nag the System update section of the About phone section in the Settings menu to try and force the update.
