Sprint 5G network arrives in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Kansas City this May

Sprint 5G network

Sprint recently announced that the LG V50 ThinQ 5G smartphone will begin selling in the U.S. this spring. While there was no exact date, the company is getting us closer, at least according to the latest official statement it has just made at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2019.

This May, those living in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Kansa City will be able to enjoy 5G connectivity on Sprint network with a supported device, which is most definitely the LG V50 ThinQ. These four cities are part of the first wave, with the likes of Houston, New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Phoenix next in line.

Sprint hopes that its merger with T-Mobile will help speed up the rollout of 5G network across the country, but even if you are lucky enough to be part of the first beneficiaries of the initial rollout, you might want to lower your expectations.

Sprint 5G cities

Coverage and signal strength are expected to be spotty at best, with Sprint hoping to cover over 1000 square miles across the said nine cities by the end of H1 2019. That’s good for a start, but still too insignificant in the entire market, especially when compared to all the hype around 5G.

Besides the V50 ThinQ, another device that will be 5G-ready by then is the HTC 5G Hub that comes with some interesting smart display and mobile hotspot capabilities, but we still don’t have pricing details.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is also expected to arrive on Sprint at some point this year after the exclusive period with Verizon ends. When this will happen is unknown to us at the moment, but it should be somewhere this summer.
