Sony has been out of the limelight for quite some while now since completing OEMs have been offering better devices at the same price.
The company has now debuted its first flagship device for the year at MWC, the Xperia 1. The new flagship device comes with a super tall aspect ratio screen, unlike any other device we’ve seen.
Sony’s Xperia 1 comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio screen that has an impressive 4K OLED display and also supports Sony’s Bravia TV technology for HDR content.
It seems the Sony Xperia is targeted towards those who consume a lot of media on their smartphones since the device also comes with Dolby Atmos for an enhanced media watching experience. As of now Amazon Prime Video and Netflix already have some 21:9 HDR content for you to enjoy in case you pick up the Xperia 1.
The device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset along with 6GB of RAM and a 3,330mAh battery which might not be enough to last a full day considering the screen size and resolution.
The Xperia 1 does not have an in-display scanner and the fingerprint scanner is added to the side of the device below the volume rockers.
Sony’s Xperia 1 has three cameras at the back of the device. The primary sensor is a 12MP, 1/2.6” sensor coupled to an f/1.6 lens with Optical SteadyShot (OIS+EIS) and Dual Pixel autofocus. There’s also a 12MP 2x telephoto lens, 52mm and another 12MP ultra-wide lens, 16mm.
Sony hasn’t yet revealed the pricing and the device would be available in late Spring.
