Sony Yuga appears on Nenamark 2 again

The rumored Sony Yuga has appeared in benchmark results and other miscellaneous sources quite regularly over the past few weeks, and we feel funny still calling it rumored. But till Sony gives an official nod, that’s what it will be. Anyways, the Sony Yuga has popped up again in a NenaMark 2 bench result, and while the new benchmark results do not really tell us more than what we already know, there is one small aspect which seems to have changed since the last time it appeared on NenaMark 2.

While the benchmark score is not too different from the last time – 59.90 now against 59.70 earlier, and nor are the other hardware specs derived from the results, the Android version seems to have gone back to Android 4.1.1, as you can see above vis-a-vis Android 4.2 the last time. The presence of Android 4.2 had set off speculations that the Yuga could well be an Xperia Nexus in the works. Given that, the new result today seems like an anti-climax. However, it  is entirely possible that the device could be running Android 4.2 upon release.

Other standout specs (again rumored) for the Sony Yuga include a 5″ 1080p (1794×1080) display, a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 APQ8064 quad-core processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16 megapixel camera with Exmor R CMOS sensor, 32GB internal storage and a microSD slot and a 2500 – 2800 mAh battery.

While the said presence of a microSD card slot may rule out the Nexus angle, the rest of the numbers do seem quite impressive, and we would love to see something like this from Sony, which has typically not been able to overtake the likes of Samsung despite some excellent products in its Xperia lineup. The Sony Yuga is expected to be released in the first quarter next year as Sony’s 2013 flagship.
