Sony Xperia V coming to Japan as Xperia AX SO-01E

Sony unveiled the Xperia V at the IFA event in Berlin in August, touting it as having the highest level of water resistance available in a smartphone. According to a NTT DoCoMo product page (which also shows the Galaxy Note 2), the Xperia V is headed to Japan in the future as the Xperia AX (model number SO-01E).

The Xperia AX is also dust-proof, and since it should be the same as the Xperia V, it should also feature Sony’s “One touch” features that allows you to pair with other devices and compatible speakers and headphones via NFC with a single tap. The camera on the back will be able to take pictures at 13 megapixels.

The Xperia AX should carry the following specs:

  • 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4.3-inch 720p display, Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2
  • 13 megapixel back camera, VGA front camera
  • 8GB internal storage, microSD up to 32GB
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA
  • Tri-band LTE
  • 1750 mAh battery
  • IP57 certified – dust and water resistant
  • Water proof up to 1 meter and 30 minutes
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.1 update upcoming later)

Information on the pricing as well as exact availability dates should be announced officially in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
