Sony releases Oreo update for Xperia X and Xperia X Compact

Xperia X Oreo 8.0

Sony is rolling out new OS upgrades to the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact, two midrange phones from 2016.

The pair came preinstalled with Android Marshmallow and received an update to Nougat last year. With the latest update, Sony shows how good it’s becoming when it comes to rolling out software updates. Other than Google and Huawei, no other Android OEM has been busy with updating its 2016 phones like Sony, which speaks volumes about the Japanese tech giant.

Both phones are receiving an update with software version 34.4.A.0.364 and besides installing Oreo, you also get bug fixes, performance enhancements as well as general system stability. The update also installs a new Android security patch for the month of January 2018.

Being a major OS upgrade, the update is heavy, weighing about 1.2GB, so make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection in order to download it.

Also, note that the Sony Xperia X Oreo update has just started rolling out today. Usually, OTA updates take time, which means you may have to wait for days before the notification comes your way. If you can’t wait, feel free to try a manual update via the Settings menu.
