Selfly is a drone which also acts as a smartphone case

SELFLY smartphone case

The Consumer Electronic Show held in Las Vegas always has some really unique and cool products at display. One such product is a smartphone case that doubles as a drone! Simply called the AEE SELFLY, this is a case formed out of the partnership between Selfly Camera LLC and AEE Aviation Technology Inc.

To be completely clear, when this smartphone case is used as a case, it cannot be used as a drone. You will have to detach your phone from the case, only then will it be able to take off. That’s not a problem though, as the drone has an inbuilt camera.

The makers of the AEE Selfly want consumers to look at this as a smartphone case that can fly. It is a pretty cool idea, carrying a drone in your pocket along with your phone. So whenever you decide you want to take a picture that your smartphone cannot, you can deploy the drone with a touch of a button.

You can control the drone from your smartphone via an app. The case can be snapped on to smartphones that have displays from 4 to 6 inches, so that’s a lot of compatible phones. However, its inbuilt battery only lasts for about 4 minutes, and it takes about 30 minutes to charge. The case will also add quite a bit of bulk to your smartphone.

According to AEE and Selfly, the case will be available in Summer this year for a retail price of $130. For that price, you will get the drone case and two batteries. You will be able to purchase one from AEEUSA.com, Amazon, and other online retailers.

What do you think of the AEE SELFLY Camera case for smartphones? Would you use it?
