After unveiling the exciting Galaxy Note 10 lineup at its annual Galaxy Unpacked in New York, Samsung has revealed yet another mind-boggling piece of technology.

On Monday, Samsung uncorked a whopping 1/1.33-inch Isocell Bright HMX camera sensor, capable of clicking 108-megapixel pictures in well-lit conditions.

The company worked closely with rivals Xiaomi on this project and is expected to allow the Chinese OEM to take it for a spin before it uses the sensor in its upcoming flagships.

Not only does Isocell Bright HMX manage to click super-sharp 108MP pictures in well-lit conditions, but it also makes use of Samsung’s Tetracell tech to gather more light and create 27MP masterpieces.

Xiaomi’s co-founder, as per CNET, was pleased to introduce the DSLR-grade sensor for the smartphones.

We are very pleased that picture resolutions previously available only in a few top-tier DSLR cameras can now be designed into smartphones.

The sensor — the first to go beyond the 100MP barrier — will also impress videographers, shooting 6K movies at 30 FPS.

Samsung’s 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, which launched in May, will also be available on Xiaomi/RealMe devices, later this year, before making its way into the Galaxy line-up.
