Samsung store in Singapore goes up in flames a day before Galaxy S8 launch

Talk about bad luck. A Samsung store in Singapore has gone up in flames just one day before the Samsung Galaxy S8 announcement. The reason for the fire isn’t known yet, but lets hope it wasn’t another smartphone or tablet.

Samsung and fire don’t get along very well. First it was the Galaxy Note 7, then the washing machines, and then a battery plant. The Note 7 recall was the biggest tech recall of all times and it had put a dent in the company’s reputation.

With the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, the company wanted to start fresh and leave it all behind. But looks like that’s going to be a little harder. Luckily, there were no injuries to anyone who was at the store when the fire started. The store has been shut and investigation is ongoing. Samsung said the following in a statement to the media;

“We were alerted to a fire at the Samsung Experience Store at AMK Hub in the early hours of Tuesday morning before store opening hours. The fire was extinguished by water sprinklers in the store and no one was injured during the incident. We are currently assessing the property damage and working closely with the authorities to determine the cause of the fire.”

Samsung will be announcing their new flagships at special unpacked events in London and New York tomorrow. So far, everything we’ve heard and seen about the Galaxy S8, has been very good. Let’s hope everything goes smooth tomorrow!
